The Quiet Origin: Nature’s Hidden Role in Oncology
- Thu 4 Sep 2025 9:05 – Sat 18 Oct 2025 17:00
Broadway Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of The Quiet Origin: Nature’s Hidden Role in Oncology, an exhibition by artist Becky Ullah, presented as part of HVAF (Hertfordshire Visual Arts Forum) Open Studios, an annual event featuring artists exhibiting in venues across Hertfordshire. Becky Ullah is the featured artist at Broadway Gallery this September as part of this wider event.
This exhibition offers a compelling glimpse into the often-overlooked natural sources behind many cancer treatments. Selected works from an unfinished collection explore how plants, soil bacteria, sea creatures, and other natural organisms have inspired and contributed to oncology therapies.
Alongside this, pieces from Becky Ullah’s earlier series, Medicinal Botanicals, will be on display. This collection delves into plant-based medicines used in treatments for the heart, lungs, and brain, revealing the rich and diverse botanical heritage behind modern pharmaceuticals. Additional nature-inspired artworks will also be exhibited, showcasing the artist’s broader engagement with the natural world.
The work is deeply inspired by the hidden stories and scientific discoveries that connect the natural environment with medical innovation. Each piece reflects the quiet, often unseen origins of life-saving therapies and invites viewers to consider the vital role nature plays in health and healing.
The exhibition runs from 4 to 27 September, with a preview evening on Thursday 4 September. Visitors are invited to meet Becky Ullah on Saturday 13 September from 2–5pm for a casual meet and greet; watch live painting on Saturday 20 September from 2–3pm; and join a guided walk-through of the exhibition with the artist on Saturday 27 September at 3pm.
Prints, cards, and other works inspired by the exhibition will be available for purchase throughout the show. You can view more about Becky at her instagram @beckyullahart or via her website www.beckyullah.co.uk
